Joking in Islam
April 16, 2008 by A Yunus
Assalaamu alaikkum wa rahamathullah,
I would share a practical joke that Shaykh Waleed shared with us in the class. He and his friend named “Jihad” (obviously a revert brother) were travelling and upon reaching the destination airport, Shaykh Waleed saw that this brother was ahead of him and so Shaykh wanted him to stop so that they can walk together. What Shaykh did was as usual to call out the name loud,
“J I H A D !!!!!”
. What do you expect? The whole crowd in the lounge, was turning their faces on the side where the call was made, realizing what a scene it has been made, Shaykh Waleed smartly turned his face too, pretending him to be innocent :)) He is !!
Many of us think that Islam is a too serious deen and have no place for humor or jokes. Who said? Islam is strict about what you speak. Allah and His messenger Rasool (sal..) never want you to lie in terms of joke, but using truth and good words you are allowed to joke or enlight others.
Here is an article which I read recently on Humor in Islam. It is very thouroughly researched and written well. Masha Allah. But before you could attempt joking, view the video below for protocols
Jazakallah Khair for Brother. Yaser and the moderator of JustQuran who have put their efforts in this.
